Dr. Zou is affiliated with the Center for Supply Chain Management and Logistics, UIC Urban Transportation Center, the National University Rail Center, the Center of Excellence for Airport Technology. Dr. Zou holds a Ph.D. degree in Transportation Engineering (minors in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, and Economics) from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.S. in Transportation Planning and Management from Tsinghua University, Beijing, a Diplome d'Ingenieur from the Ecole Centrale de Nantes, and a B.E. in Civil Engineering from Tsinghua University. Before joining UIC in 2012, Bo was a short-time Research & Development Engineer in the National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Zou’s research is in the broad area of using microeconomic principles, and operations research and econometric techniques for intercity transportation and logistics systems analysis, transportation infrastructure resilience, infrastructure management. Among those, Dr. Zou has specific interests in the interactive behavior of different stakeholders/agents in transportation and logistics systems. A growing area in Dr. Zou’s research is new economic theory applications to recent advances in transportation technologies (for example, connected vehicles). Dr. Zou’s research work has appeared in Transportation Research Parts A, B, C, E, Networks and Spatial Economics, Journal of Infrastructure Systems, and Journal of Air Transport Management. Dr. Zou contributed two book chapters with a third one (by invitation) on airline economics scheduled to come out later next year. Dr. Zou also served as a reviewer for various journals including Operations Research, Transportation Science, European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Research Parts A, C, E, Applied Mathematical Modeling, Networks and Spatial Economics, Journal of Transport Economics and Policy, Journal of Air Transport Management, and Transportation Research Records, among others. Dr. Zou’s previous research on the economic impact of flight delays in the US and airline fuel efficiency has been widely reported by US mainstream media such as Reuters, BusinessWeek, Washington Post, CNN, USA Today, National Public Radio, and Aviation Week.

Dr. Zou is a member of the Aviation and Railway Application Sections (AAS and RAS) in the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences (INFORMS), and a member of the Aviation Economics and Forecasting Committee in Transportation Research Board (TRB). Other professional affiliations include the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), the World Society on Transport Research (WCTR), and the Chinese Overseas Transportation Association (COTA).
